History:

Graham is something caught between the man he was as the Huntsman back in the Enchanted Forest and who he had been made to be as the Sheriff of Storybrooke, laid under a curse that wiped his memories and rewrote his personality to better suit the evil Queen's desires. As Sheriff Graham he was left hollowed, incapable of feeling anything of the world around him as an aftereffect of his having had his heart ripped out by the Queen some time before she enacted her curse, turning him into a pet as punishment for his reneging on the deal that would have seen him slaughtering Snow White and bringing back her heart to sate the Queen's need for revenge.

Although a good and honorable man, Graham had been twisted for the better part of three decades in his being forced to carry out the Quee
n's commands and had time and time again had to commit acts that went against his very nature. In Storybrooke he had at least had the illusion of some freedom while under the thumb of Regina, the evil Queen turned Mayor of Storybrooke, but back in the Enchanted Forest he had been allowed no such pretense. Under the threat of agony and death, he had acted as the Queen's swords-arm outside the castle walls and her bed-mate inside them, one role as unpalatable as the other.

Raised by wolves (werewolves, to be precise) after his parents' abandonment, the Huntsman had never been born to be caged, and had attempted to re
bel against the Queen wherever he was able - wherever, that was, the Queen was not immediately able to punish him. While his one attempt at escape had seen him sacrificing his freedom to allow Snow White to escape to safety with the woman he had fallen in love with in just a few short days, Graham as the Huntsman still managed to help Snow White's Prince escape the Queen's clutches some time later, and attempted throughout to mitigate something of the Queen's evil in pushing again and again for her to turn to mercy and forgiveness in her plans, for all the good it did him.

For twenty-eight years of the Queen's curse Graham had lived as the Sheriff of Storybrooke, unable to feel and uncaring of what happened to him, trapped in time and in a world without magic. Then a stranger arrived in town, bringing with her change and the slow dissolution of the curse's effects. Graham was struck with a flash of memory of his previous life with a stolen kiss, bowled over by the whole of who he was rushing back to him with a kiss willingly given.

For the first time in what felt like a lifetime, the Huntsman settled back into the shape of Graham, and for one brilliant moment he was whole.

Chosen Exit Point: Graham is taken from that moment of revelation, where he has just broken off the relationship he had with Regina (the same woman who was the Evil Queen in the land they had come from) and had his memories slam back into him after Emma's kiss. One moment later and Regina's crushing his heart into ash would have seen him die on the floor of his office, but seeing as how he'd be much more fun to explore alive, the moment just before the end is perfect.
